I own a CLP-500 & a CLP-510. Very happy with those Samsung printers EXCEPT no Networking. Set one up manually and worked so-so, The CLP-600N is PERFECT in that area. EASY setup (3 computers) FAST responce to print. Great quality, 1200dpi compared to 600dpi on the older ones.

BUT it does 2 things that 'annoy' me. First, to print BOTH sides, you need to do it MANUALLY. Second, it randomly asks for paper from the side tray. Windows is setup OK, even tech support don't know why?

As I said before ALMOST perfect. Very happy with it!

I BROUGHT THIS PRINTER AS REFURBISHED FOR $469 INSTEAD OF BUYING THE USED PRINTER FOR $190. WHEN I RECEIVED THE PRINTER I NOTICED THAT THE INK CARTRIDGES WERE NOT NEW AND WERE PLACED IN PLASTICE BAGS TO WHICH THE INK LEAKED OUT AND I HAD TO CLEAN THE BEFORE THEY COULD BE USED.

WHEN I OPENED THE BACK TO INSTALL THE INK CARTRIDGES I FOUND THAT PRINTER WAS DIRTY AND HAD NOT BEEN CLEANED FOR SOME TIME, I FOUND THIS TO BE ODD SINCE IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE REFURBISH. ON THE FIRST TRY TO OPERATE THE PRINTER IT DID NOT WORK AND HAD A PRINTER ERROR MESSAGE THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE FAN. I SENT AN EMAIL TO THE SELLER ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD TO DOWN LOAD A UNIVERSL DRIVER, I DID THIS AND THE PRINTER WORKED ONCE AND NEVER WORKED AGAIN. I AM A RETIRED CHIEF OF AN ITT DEPARTMENT FOR VETERANS AFFAIRS AND I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REFURBISH AND NON-REFURBISH. THE SELLER RETURNED MY FULL PAYMENT INCLUDING SHIPPING FOR WHICH I AM THANKFUL. I BROUGHT THIS PRINTER AS REFURBISHED FOR $469 INSTEAD OF BUYING THE USED PRINTER FOR $190.

I have used it daily mostly for printing packing slips, brochures, ads, and shipping labels. The printer has only jammed once, and that is when a book was sitting in the way of the papers exit path. This impresses me, as the first year of its life, it was used in a humid basement office. The initial toner cartridges lasted me a little over a year.

My only gripe is, while I printed mostly black and white, the color toners all dropped at the same level to about 80%. I believe this is caused by the calibration it performs on warmup. New Samsung brand cartridges are a little pricey, but comparable to HP prices. The cartridges contain both the toner, waste bin, and drum, which drives the cost of the cartridge up.

The drums outlast the toner themselves, and use the old style green metallic coating (like old Lexmark printers), so refilling is a viable option. I find this style drum to be more durable. I used mainly Ricoh brand papers in this printer, as well generic self adhesive shipping labels with great success. Glossy photo paper however, left a faint grey haze on the paper. The printer rollers do not show any signs of wear as of yet.

This printer was setup on my network, and no issues were experienced with Windows XP, Windows 7, or Max OS 10.5 and 10.6. In fact, the Mac's automatically detected the printer driver. The web interface is clean, and easy to use. The Windows printer monitoring software included with the printer works very well, and uses very little resources in the background. The software allows for poster printing, and more.

All in all, I am very happy with the performance of this printer. I don't miss my previous printer (HP Color LaserJet 4550) at all.

I will say, I do like the layout, cheaper consumables, and print quality of the Oki C6100 in my other office. But there is a huge price difference between the two when new. Conclusion: Pros: Very Good print quality (except for toner haze on gloss or semi gloss papers) Reliable printing; no jamming, no errors, no repairs.

Quality parts; sturdy plastic and metal guts Noise; Printing and paper pickup is very quiet for its class Speed; Fast first page out time is excellent, PPM in BW and Color is impressive for the price. THANKFULLY, it does NOT use a carousel toner drive assembly like similar priced HP/Konica products Cons: Physical Configuration; side load toners, side load envelopes, front load paper tray. At least a foot of room is needed on the side of the printer, which causes issues in cramped spaces. Smell; This printer gives off heavy ozone, even far after the break in period. Very noticeable in a small office. Worse than an old HP LaserJet 4 Noise; The cooling fan spins constantly, and pulsates from time to time. I find it very annoying in a quiet office.

For a printer fraught with printing problems, it is expensive at $500 + $500 for toner cartridges. We had problems with it right out of the box. After 1 month and many calls to Samsung's Tech Support to solve a myriad of printing & networking problems, we finally got it up and running (briefly). Printing on paper seems to be a substantial problem for the CLP600. Samsung Tech Support informed me: 1. Samsung doesn't approve use of ANY CARDSTOCK paper 2. Samsung doesn't approve use of lighter weight paper 3.

Samsung doesn't approve use of ANY BROCHURE-weight paper 4. Samsung doesn't approve use of glossy paper 5. Samsung doesn't approve use of our engraved business letterhead 6. Standard weight paper, 20# and 24# also incurs paper-jams. (I am not sure if Samsung actually approves the use of paper in their printer). # 1 PROBLEM: CONSTANT PAPER JAMS - even on 'Samsung-approved weight paper'.

This problem is exacerbated when paper jams & shreds inside the inner-workings of the machine. When bits of shredded paper grind the printer to a halt, Samsung Tech Support only suggests repairs by an authorized repair center because the shredded paper cannot be removed without dismantling the machine. Ordinarily, paper jams are only frustrating, but when paper shreds deep inside the machine, we incur costly shipping expenses and long-term, down-time.

Even with a 3-year extended warranty, it is very expensive to ship the 45-lb printer to the nearest `authorized` repair center 140 miles away. The machine is much too huge for our large sedan, so it must be picked up by UPS. Paper-jams are inevitable with any double-sided printing. These problems have yet to be corrected by Samsung. I must emphasize how much I REGRET THIS PURCHASE My confidence in Samsung and their interest in customer retention was further diminished after talking with 'Melanie' in Samsung`s Customer Service / Tech Support. To quote Melanie, ``There is no way I'm going to talk to you about a paper-jam and I am NOT transferring you over to another agent to fix paper-jam problems!``.

Buyers should be aware that the original cartridges sold with the printer are UNDER-FILLED with a minimal amount of toner. Soon after purchase, you will have to buy 4 new toner cartridges that will COST as much or MORE THAN THE PRINTER - $500. Does anybody want to buy this `lightly used` Samsung CLP600-N with new toner cartridges.cheap!? There is virtually no useful documentation on how to setup the printer in a networked environment.

There isn't much information on the web either. So after 3 hours of experimenting, here's a how-to guide to benefit someone else who may be on the same path.

After connecting the printer to a LAN access point, pop in the 'Network utilities' CD and install both utilities in there (setIP and another one that I can't remember the name). Pull up your router's dhcp configuration and take note of valid, assignable dhcp IPs. You won't see your printer. Click on the add printer button. Fill in the MAC (from printout from clp600n). For IP/Gateway, use a valid dhcp IP noted above. Subnet mask stays the same.

After this, you should be able to get communication between the printer and SetIP. Now pop in the printer software CD and install the drivers.

The rest should be a breeze. I'm not sure what happens if the dynamic IP changes so to preempt any nasty surprises, you might want to block your router from assigning out that IP to other access points. You can do that in your router settings. Hope that helps!

I have owned this printer for about a year. We mainly use printers for black ink output and occasionally for color. We decided on a laser printer since we were going through deskjet cartridges like they were water. The problem with this printer is it consumes cyan (yellow) ink along with the black ink for black & white only copies. It also seems to consume the blue and red ink, but at a slower rate.

At the end of year, we went through 2 black cartridges (as expected), a yellow cartridge and about 80% of the blue and red cartridges. What made this situation worse was that the printer would not allow me to print using only the black cartridge. Once the yellow ran out, I couldn't print anymore, in spite of having plenty of black ink left. After pricing the colored cartridges, it was evident that I no longer wanted a color laser printer, as the three color cartridges totaled over $400 with tax. I ended buying a Brother multi-function unit (print, copy, fax, scan) for about half the price of the Samsung cartridges.

Did Samsung intentionally design color ink to be used up when printing black only pages? I don't know, but what I do know is that I will never buy a Samsung printer again.

I have been looking for a laser printer for my home office for while, but wasn't ready to spend $450+. This printer was on sale at a major office supply chain for under $200 so I thought, why not? There is a plastic-y smell when printing, as mentioned by another reviewer, but I was assured by a very helpful customer service rep. At Samsung that it would go away. I had no trouble setting up the software for my Mac. I'm a graphic designer and was concerned about print quality - the color seems to be quite accurate, though the detail/solid color coverage does look a bit 'grainy'. Warm-up and printing speed are quick.

There is an 1-year ON SITE warranty. For the price I paid I feel like it's a good, maybe great, value. I have had problems with this printer since day 1, I am on a mac and found it very difficult to network. Several long calls with inexperienced tech support people. When I finally got it up and running I had black chicken scratches every inch down the page. They did replace the cartridges after I had to mail in some examples of the problem and many phone calls. But after the chicken scratches were gone, my printed pages all had a gray tone.

I was told it was the type of paper. I use bright white laser paper and no matter what the weight or brand, it always came out with a gray tinge.

I called several times again and no one could tell me how to fix it. I gave up and went back to Kinkos to do my important printing job. I recently got a new router and had to call tech support to set it up again. I just thought I would ask this guy because he seemed pretty knowledgeable, though it took us another hour to get the network working.

He asked me to do a simple test and print a blank page. It came out gray, he instantly knew it was the fuser. However, my computer is now out of warranty. This tech guy saw in my record that I had called in several times and that I was told that the paper was the problem while the printer was in warranty. They refuse to replace the fuser ($180) even though they have a record of it being faulty when it was under warranty. I, of course then spoke to his manager, Chuck U, employee #, who told me that the Service level department made their decision and there was no one else to talk to and no way to lodge a formal complaint with the company.

For security reasons, he couldn't give me his last name or an address to send a letter, or an email address. He basically said I agree with you, I understand your point but there is nothing we are going to do about it. I will never buy a samsung product again and would never recommend it to anyone.
